5 Mistakes People Make At The Gym

If your fitness levels aren’t improving after your workout, you might need to take a look at these tips by Sergey Irgashev, Trainer at Talise Fitness, Madinat Jumeirah.

GYM BLUNDER #1
STARTING WITHOUT A PLAN
People come in the gym, walk around and randomly try different kinds of equipment. I would advise you to plan your workout beforehand, come with the list of things you would like to accomplish for that day based on your fitness goal. Make sure you put on the list the name of the cardio machines, time, speed or intensity level, heart rate expected, weight load on the resistance machine, set and reps, resting time in between and stretching. If it is looks complicated, get some support by booking a session with a personal trainer.

GYM BLUNDER #2
THINKING LIGHT CARDIO WILL SHED FAT
A light cardio workout won’t help you shed fat. Do an interval training session for the same period of time and add some compound weight lifting exercises. This will stimulate your muscles and boost your metabolism, so you will start burning more calories even at rest. (For an example interval training session see http://the-sweat-shop.net/15-minute-workout/)

GYM BLUNDER #3
BELIEVING AB EXERCISES WILL FLATTEN THE TUM
Most people still think that doing a lot of abdominal exercises will flatten their stomach, and it is not true. Instead, I would advise you to do five to eight full body, compound exercises that target every single muscle in one go, such as push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges and deadlifts. These exercises require a lot of energy, so your energy expenditure will be increased for the same period of time, plus your body will be burning calories even at rest for at least 48 hours.

GYM BLUNDER #4
NOT STRETCHING
It’s important to maintain some sort of stretching regimen because weight training tightens muscles. When you weight train, you incur tiny tears in your muscles. During the course of around 24 to 73 hours, your body works at repairing those muscle tears, resulting in muscles that are a bit larger, stronger, and tighter. Incorporating stretching into your routine will help fend away muscle tightness and improve your flexibility.

GYM BLUNDER #5
SKIPPING THE COOL DOWN
Most people underestimate the importance of a warm up and cool down.  Not warming up your body properly before your workout can significantly increase the chance of muscle and joint injuries. The same applies for the cool down phase. A proper cool down at the end of strenuous training session will help blood circulation, remove waste product from the muscles, and prevent and reduce muscles soreness.
